Ms Lyn O'Connell

Biography

Lyn O’Connell is the Deputy Secretary of the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development. She was appointed in November 2008. Lyn’s responsibilities include Australia’s investment in infrastructure through the Nation Building Program and advising Government on transport policy and regulation. Lyn was also appointed as the Commonwealth Coordinator General in November 2010.

Prior to her appointment at Infrastructure, Lyn was a Senior Executive at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship with responsibility for reforming Australia’s detention practices.

Previously, Lyn held a number of senior executive positions in both  the public and private sectors including the Health Insurance Commission (now Medicare Australia), IBM Australia, the Department of Health & Ageing and the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Commission (ATSIC).

Lyn has almost 30 years experience in policy development, program delivery and corporate roles.

Lyn is a Director of the Regional Rail Link Authority, a Director of the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) and a Director of OzHelp. 

Lyn has a Bachelor of Science degree (ANU), she is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
