Project of the Year: DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS JOINT OPERATIONS COMMAND

Recipients: Department of Defence, Industry Funds Management  Leighton Contractors Pty Limited, Maunsell AECOM, Royal Bank of Scotland (formerly ABN AMRO) and Spotless Services Australia Pty Limited

For excellence and innovation in the design and delivery of the Headquarters, Joint Operations Command Project (HQJOC), the new strategic operations centre for the Australian Defence Force and first Defence PPP. The project brought to fruition an ambitious vision to provide a single, integrated, around the clock command centre for the Australian Defence Force, allowing Defence to better manage and safeguard Australian forces deployed around the world.

Chairman’s Prize: THE RT HON CAMPBELL NEWMAN | Lord Mayor of Brisbane

The National Infrastructure Awards Chairman’s Prize is awarded to an individual who has exhibited leadership and vision to drive the industry forward. This year, the Chairman’s Prize recognised Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, for his vision, leadership and delivery of key infrastructure in South East Queensland.

Government Partnerships Excellence: THE PARTNERSHIPS VICTORIA IN SCHOOLS PROJECT

Recipients: Abigroup, Royal Bank of Scotland (Formerly ABN Amro), United Group Services, Victorian Department of Education and Victorian Department of Treasury & Finance

For excellence and innovation in the procurement and planning of 11 new schools under the Partnerships Victoria in Schools program, with a project cost of $255 million. Under the contract, the Axiom Education consortium has been selected to design, construct, finance and maintain the schools in Melbourne’s growing outer suburbs.

Contractor Excellence: URANQUINTY POWER STATION

Recipients: Bilfinger Berger Services & Baulderstone

For excellence and innovation in the planning, design and construction of the $800 million Uranquinty Power Station, a 640 MW open cycle gas turbine peaking power station located at Uranquinty, near Wagga Wagga in NSW. The station consists of four gas turbine generators, supplying power into the national grid and through expert project management was delivered less than 17 months from financial close.

Advisory Excellence – WESTERN CORRIDOR RECYCLED WATER PROJECT

Recipients: Evans & Peck

For excellence and innovation in advisory operations on the Western Corridor Recycled Water Project. As the lead transaction and commercial advisor to the Queensland Government, Evans & Peck successfully managed the delivery of the project through the five project alliances, ensuring delivery of world class results in a sensitive environment and under extreme time pressures. The $2.5 billion Western Corridor Recycled Water Project is a crucial component of the $9 billion South East Queensland Water Grid, the largest urban drought response in Australia.

Financial Excellence: ORIGIN ENERGY/CONOCOPHILLIPS

Recipient: Macquarie Capital

For excellence in the innovative facilitation of a joint venture agreement between Origin Energy and ConocoPhillips, whereby ConocoPhillips acquired a 50 per cent share of Origin Energy’s coal seam gas reserve and related production facilities while Macquarie Capital successfully defended Origin Energy from BG Group’s hostile takeover bid of $13.6 billion. As a result of the joint venture, Origin Energy retained control of their coal seam gas interests, and reaped a vital source of funds to develop their reserves.

Operator & Service Provider Excellence: PERTH TO MANDURAH RAIL WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Recipient: Public Transport Authority WA

For excellence and innovation in the delivery of project operations and service management of the Perth to Mandurah Rail Line which forms the centerpiece of the $1.66 billion New MetroRail project in Perth. Innovative customer communications and strict on time running targets have ensured a world class public transport network with passenger growth of more than 40 per cent since its opening.
